Hello, Sue Brown. You’re portrait 100.

Sue Brown, 15 1/4" x 15 1/4", acrylic on cradled wood panel

Sue says:

“I coach. I write. I draw. I help people bring more creativity, meaning and balance into their lives and work. My clients want to be more creative: either for their own enjoyment, to think differently in their organisations, or as a career change. I work with individuals and groups.

Check out my website for more information and you can follow me on www.twitter.com/idcoachuk”

They say the proof is in the pudding. Here’s the pudding:

I appreciate your talent, Sue. This one’s for you!

And this concludes my project. I have learned a few things during the process:

Relatively, 100 is a lot. I mean, 100 pennies is not a lot- but for me, 100 portraits is a lot.

I was able to accomplish a goal, on time.

Giving is a great way of getting.

Profile pictures usually portray the owner’s true personality. (Interesting!) For interest: http://healthland.time.com/2009/12/03/the-psychology-of-facebook-profiles/

Even though I got a bit tired half way through, I looked forward to doing each drawing.

I only threw one portrait in the trash. I learned to push through the doubt.

Doing a public blog challenge really is a great way to stay accountable, share, and get work done!

Time in:

I spent approximately 300 hours on this project, including prep time, drawing, researching and posting. (I also work full time.)

What now?

I will continue making art and posting it here, just not at the same pace. You might see something a bit different…

I am open to taking portrait commissions, all sizes. I will have a web site up shortly; until then, I can be reached at artboy68@live.ca.

Thank you for following along and all of your awesome comments. I will now have more time for reading others’ blogs!

Cheers,

69 positive kismet…

Elizabeth Obi-Frank, pencil, 2 3/8" x 2 15/16"

I am told that kismet means fate, or destiny.  Elizabeth describes her own blog as “a positive kismet, motivational blog offering tips, advice, interviews, social media ruminations as well as creative, spiritual, inspirational insights on people, places, and the events that shape our lives.”  I can say that her twitter posts are the same; always providing that much-needed lift to my day.

Follow her blog, Mirth and Motivation, or follow her on twitter @ElizObiFrank

Coach Rahul, pencil, 2 3/8" x 2 1/2"

Rahul’s blog is aptly named: the anecdotes and insights he shares can be applied not only to business and success, but to most aspects of life. Check out http://coachrahul.com/. It’s a worthwhile read!

57 Jane Tims

Jane Tims, pencil, 2 3/8" x 2 9/16"

Jane looks to me like one of those gentle souls that I would like to have tea with one day. Her poetry is quite magical- I just read ‘Still Street’, which is inspired by a street scene set up in miniature models, but to read it one would think you were standing in the real place. I recommend perusing her prose and pencil work at http://nichepoetryandprose.wordpress.com/ .

56: homage to a beautiful girl

Here is a shout out to someone very deserving of multiple awards, not limited to but including: contribution to society, exemplary motherhood and, just generally, complete selflessness. Plus, one look at that smile and you just know she’s a sweetheart. It’s her genuine heart of gold that makes me fall in love with her again every day. This one’s for you, babe! Bravo!!

Nicole: tireless volunteer, unwavering mother, always up to the adventure, a joy to all who know her, and my champion, my wife. Pencil, 2 3/8" x 3 1/8"

For me from my son

My ‘secret santa’ gift this year was an unexpected pleasantness, to the point that I actually teared up a bit… I must say that I have a great support network at home, with my entire family cheering me on to the 100th portrait and beyond, which I appreciate beyond words. My oldest offspring drew my name for stockings, and his thoughtful planning renewed my faith in teendom. We are fellow bloggers, his brand new site is called Protege Fitness; his platform being fitness and nutrition. He has an exceptional ability to network and his writing talent dwarfs my own- you can follow him @joshhamiltonfit on Twitter. His will be an interesting  journey to watch.

Pictured below is part of his gift to me: it’s a mechanical pencil with a beautiful rotary feed action. The other half is a coffee cup also inscribed with my artboy68 handle. I will use them every day.

And this is my son Josh:

55 portrait of a portrait artist

Elena Caravela, coloured pencil, 2 3/8" x 2 1/2"

Elena is a great inspiration to me. When I first saw her work my heart jumped a bit; I just find her ability to create freshness and light in her portrayals fascinating- it makes me want to hug somebody. Thank you for sharing your art with the world, Elena! You can visit her blog at http://elenacaravela.wordpress.com/ , her website at  http://www.elenacaravela.net/ or buy her new book at http://www.lulu.com/spotlight/PortraitofaGirl.
