realist, or…?

Are you a realist? If so, what kind of realist are you?

If not, what’s your angle? I’m interested.

Maybe it’s the places in between that are the most interesting?
    (I love this!)

To be realistic, I’m not a ‘realist’ – but labels can be confusing. I agree with Karen about ‘between’. Your painting is stunning…

Thanks John. I’ve been trying to work out who I am as a realist for a while now. I think for me it no longer has to mean a realistic looking image, but has more to do with honesty. Those who can be completely honest in their art-making have a special ability, one that I will forever be trying to master…

I can be either a realist or not, depending on my frame of mind. Realism can be much more frightening to create than the abstract because there is always pressure (often self-induced) to be perfect. Therein lies the paradox: real is not necessarily perfect. Fabulous job on this work!

Thanks Kimberly! I totally understand what you mean about the pressure; I learned at a young age that I could draw realistically and since then that’s what everyone expected of me…”Wow, that’s amazing. You should do this for a living!”… I’ve taken the last couple of years or so trying to un-learn those high pressure, rigid ways of thinking. Really starting to have fun now.
